Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of Belarus, Chairman of the Council of the Republic Natalya Kochanova said as she met with outgoing Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Belarus Latif Gandilov, BelTA has learned.
"I am happy to welcome you to the Council of the Republic. Sadly this is your farewell courtesy call. I would like to express my gratitude and appreciation for your warm regard to our country, for your contribution to the development of relations between for our countries and peoples .The level of relations that bind our countries is in many respects a great merit of our presidents and, of course, those people who are engaged in this work. In recent years, we have seen our bilateral contacts to intensify: both at the highest and high levels. The presidents of our countries exchanged visits. These kind, warm relations between our peoples and our countries will continue to develop. There's no doubt about that. Because Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of our country. We have always helped each other in difficult times. And for this please accept sincere words of gratitude and appreciation," Natalya Kochanova noted.
According to her, both countries have achieved good results in many areas of cooperation. "Much has been done in parliamentary, intergovernmental relations, in economy. A trading house of Azerbaijan has opened in Belarus,” the speaker noted. “I would like to wish you every success in your future work, and peace and accord to your country. I am sure that you will always be a good friend of Belarus. I have no doubt that you will do a lot to ensure that the two countries keep momentum in bilateral relations, despite the fact that you will be engaged in some other work,” the speaker said.
The ambassador expressed gratitude for the high assessment of his work. “This is the result of the work to achieve the goals set by the two presidents during the visit in 2018 and also in 2021. That visit was timely and important. It was a chance to compare notes in order to move forward. The intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation is set to meet in September,” he said.
According to Ambassador Latif Gandilov, the relations between the two countries have a great future. “Real deeds strengthen both economic and political relations. Over the 30 years of independence our wise leaders have nurtured good relations, including in public diplomacy. There is an ongoing dialogue between the two states. Belarus and Azerbaijan will continue to develop bilateral relations,” he said.
