Mogilev, Nanjing sign program of cooperation for 2015-2016

MOGILEV, 14 April (BelTA) – The program of cooperation of Mogilev and Nanjing for 2015-2016 was signed by Chairman of the Mogilev City Hall Vladimir Tsumarev and Chairman of the People's Government of the Chinese city of Nanjing Miao Ruilin in Mogilev on 14 April, BelTA has learned.

The document provides for close partnership in the economic, trade, investment, human, social and cultural areas and also in housing and utilities services. In particular, the two cities will participate in business forums to be held in the two cities, exchange youth and official delegations, and experience in the urban development.

Speaking about the prospects of cooperation, the mayors of the cities noted that the two-year partnership program will be the basis for the conclusion of an agreement on twin-town relations. "Mogilev is always open to cooperation, is interested in raising foreign investment, promoting its products on foreign markets, developing tourism, and deepening interregional partnership. I am sure that this meeting will give an impetus to the development of relations between Mogilev and Nanjing, and will help raise the bilateral cooperation to a new level,” said Vladimir Tsumarev.

The starting point of interest was a trip of a Mogilev delegation led by Vladimir Tsumarev to Nanjing in September last year, which resulted in the signing of a protocol of intent on the development of the partnership. The current visit of the Chinese delegation is the second one. The previous one was held in late November 2014.

During the official meeting in the Mogilev culture center representatives of Nanjing and Mogilev presented the cultural potential and investment policy of their cities. The Chinese partners were invited to consider the possibility of participating in the project to build a hotel compound, and aqua-park and a football indoor center in Pechersk District, a shopping center with underground car park in the Mogilev downtown, a multipurpose office and business center with a hotel, a cinema house, a restaurant and a car dealership in the Kazimirovka neighborhood.

"These projects are about the development of the infrastructure of the cit. If there is an interest on the part of our Chinese partner, the Mogilev City Hall will provide full support with their implementation," said Vladimir Tsumarev. In addition, the Chinese guests were briefed about the project of the Kazimirovka experimental plant to build a facility to protect large structures from corrosion by hot dip galvanizing. Representatives of Nanjing plan to visit the company on 15 April.

Nanjing is ready to cooperate actively with Mogilev in many areas, including in the industrial field, Mr Miao Ruilin said. The Chinese city is set to send a business delegation to Mogilev to get acquainted with the city enterprises and consider possible opportunities for investment. Good prospects of interaction, according to Mr Miao Ruilin, are in the field of education and science. There are 56 universities in Nanjing with more than 810,000 students, and the number of graduates is about 200,000 every year. The Kuleshov Mogilev State University has already signed an agreement on cooperation with one of the universities of the Chinese city.

The Chinese delegation took part in the opening of the Days of Culture of Nanjing in Mogilev. A Chinese art exposition opened at the Maslennikov Regional Art Museum. The museum also hosted a presentation of guqin, a plucked seven-string Chinese musical instrument, and a tea ceremony. The Chinese guests are scheduled to visit several industrial enterprises of Mogilev, get familiar with the infrastructure of the new neighborhood Sputnik, visit several social sites, the Buinichi Field memorial and an ethno-village.
