Belarus keeps investing in transport sector

Investment in the transport industry has not been suspended, Deputy Prime Minister Anatoly Sivak said at a joint sitting of the House of Representatives and the Council of the Republic, BelTA has learned.

“Despite the difficult economic conditions, the investment in the sector has not been discontinued. The rolling stock is being upgraded: four five-car electric trains of the business-class interregional lines (EPM) were purchased for Minsk-Brest and Minsk-Gomel routes, as well as 152 buses and 19 trolleybuses for passenger transportation. The National Infrastructure Plan of the Republic of Belarus for 2021-2025 provides for the implementation of 83 transport infrastructure projects. In 2022, 33 projects are running,” Anatoly Sivak said.

According to him, this year there are plans to commission a bridge across the Western Dvina River at the entrance to Novopolotsk, as well as a bypass of the town of Mir. “In November 2022, we plan to commission the south-western bypass of Mogilev. We are also set to repair, build and renovate 765.6 km of national roads and 2,482 linear meters of road structures. We will repair 1,407 km of roads and 1,217 running meters of bridge structures,” the deputy prime minister added.
